 | Well, I’ve done it again. Knew I shouldn’t, but went right ahead and delivered a new set of chairs without taking pictures. And those chairs were my only examples of an entirely new design. Again! You would think I’d learn. This isn’t the first time I’ve done this. Luckily, I was saved by the graciousness of my clients, who sent me photos of their new chairs. My Rhode Island Fan-back side chairs grace the dinning room of their lovely restored antique Cape Cod style home in Maine. For a while now, I have wanted to make a Fan-Back side chair using the seat and turnings of my Rhode Island Bow-Back as the starting point. An order for a set of Fan-Backs combined with Rhode Island Comb-Back arm chairs pushed me to work on this new design. I scaled down the comb pattern I use on the Comb-Back arm chair, experimented with several patterns of arm post, before settling on the present design, and adjusted the angles at which the arm posts enter the seat. The result is a chair which pushes all the buttons. A really attractive, comfortable, unique chair.
